Explosion Protection

In hazardous environments, such as petrochemical plants or oil and gas refineries, explosions are a constant concern. Even small missteps can become life-threatening emergencies.

Nevertheless, the operation has to function; equipment needs to stay up and running while workers do their jobs. To maintain equilibrium—a safe and secure facility that meets productivity and performance goals—companies have to utilize components that meet strict safety standards and accommodate the demands of highly specialized and potentially volatile settings.

IDEC has a long history in explosion protection. We have been developing, manufacturing, and selling explosion-proof lighting since 1953, and we were among the first companies to launch explosion-proof products for use in hydrogen-gas plants in 1973 in Japan. Today, our products accommodate standards such as IECEx, ATEX, TIIS, and UL, and we address the challenges of explosion protection with products that also take into account the changing realities of automation. For example, our push-button switches prevent the ignition of explosive gases or vapors. We also offer intrinsic safety barriers with current and voltage too weak to spark an explosion, as well as an array of LED lighting designed for a wide range of explosion-resistant applications. Plus, IDEC provides control equipment with intrinsically safe, explosion-proof structures and, in Japan, pressurized enclosures.
